RENEE ZELLWEGER GIVES GEORGE CLOONEY THE BOOT

THE SIZZLING fling between George Clooney and Renee Zellweger is over — she pulled the plug on the relationship because of “committed bachelor” George’s roving eye.

After being dumped by her “Me, Myself and Irene” co-star Jim Carrey last December, Renee went into the romance with Clooney with her eyes wide open — and after a while she didn’t like what she was seeing, a source told The ENQUIRER.

“George told her right off the bat that he likes to get around, that he’s still not ready for a commitment.

“He told her she might read things about him being out on the town with other women when she wasn’t with him.

“It was his way of avoiding breaking her heart. He knew how much she was still hurting over Carrey.

“At first, that was cool with Renee. She thought she’d be all right just hanging out with George, taking things light.

“And for a time they had a lot of fun together. They went out to eat a lot, or just stayed at home.

“They found they had a lot in common and there was a lot of genuine affection between them.

“But true to his word, George also found time to paint the town red with his buddies and to squire other women around. Renee found herself hurting. On one hand she respected his honesty about his other girls, but at the same time she thought she could tame him.

“She finally realized George wasn’t going to change for her or any woman. And before things got too hot and heavy, she called him prior to his leaving for Canada to work on a new movie. She wanted to have a heart-to-heart talk about where they were headed — and by the end of the conversation they both wound up agreeing to go their separate ways.

“They agreed to stay friends, no harm done. And Renee admires George even more for being straightforward with her and not letting things go too long and then breaking her heart.” Even though they may get together in the future as friends, their romance is dead.

Clooney, 40, left the 32-year-old “Bridget Jones’s Diary” star behind in Los Angeles when he headed to Montreal to scout locations for his upcoming film “Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.”

And when he returned to L.A., he quickly dove back into the bachelor party life, spending a sexy evening at 4 Play Gentlemen’s Club in West L.A., where he was spotted plying his charms on two exotic dancers.

Then on October 20, a dateless George attended his “Ocean’s Eleven” co-star Julia Roberts’ star-studded 34th birthday party in Malibu.

And Renee didn’t waste any time before returning to the dating game. Soon after her romance with Clooney ended, she was spotted sharing a romantic dinner with an unidentified dark-haired date in one of her favorite haunts, Bistro Gardens in Studio City.

Said an observer: “They seemed to be more than friends.”

Another source added: “George really liked Renee and had a great time with her, but he’s not prepared to settle down with anyone. He’s a committed bachelor.”
