REESE POST-HEAD TRAUMA FEARS

REESE WITHERSPOON could face brain surgery after being struck by a car while jogging, experts say.

That’s the shocking REAL story behind the harrowing Sept. 7 accident in which the Oscar-winning actress slammed her head on the ground after being struck down by an 84-year-old motorist in Santa Monica, Calif.

These exclusive ENQUIRER photos – snapped minutes after the collision – show the usually perky blonde beauty bloodied and dazed as a team of emergency responders swath her head with gauze and wrap a cervical collar around her neck.

“Even though Reese was treated at the hospital and released with what were described as minor injuries, her family and friends were extremely concerned,” a source close to the star told The ENQUIRER.

Medical experts – who have not treated the actress – agree that while the 35-year-old actress’ injuries appear minor, she could develop potentially deadly complications.

“There is a danger of late seizure activity in the brain from the head trauma,” Dr. Samuel Jacobson, a critical care physician in Boca Raton, Fla., told The ENQUIRER.

“Another possible danger is a potentially deadly subdural hematoma, or bleeding on the brain. This can occur days – even weeks – after a head trauma, and can cause seizures or even death.”

If the actress suffered a subdural hematoma, the pressure in her skull would build and she could need brain surgery, added retired sports medicine physician, Dr. Gabe Mirkin, in Florida.

A similar type of head trauma  — epidural hematoma,  claimed the life of actress NATASHA RICHARDSON, 45,  in March 2009 after she was injured in a skiing accident.

The medical examiner ruled that she would have survived if she had received immediate medical treatment but there was a delay of four hours before she was transported to a medical facility.
