Need a red glitter cape, slightly soiled with sweat beads?  Godfather of Soul James Brown‘s memorabilia hit the auction block creating a feeding frenzy of controversy.

More than 300 lots of Brown’s belongings were auctioned off at Christie’s yesterday bringing in a total of $857,688.

Among the items was the red denim dump suit the soul icon wore for the concert preceding the 1974 Rumble in the Jungle slugfest between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman. It fetched $25k.

The auction was the result that court-appointed trustees of the late singer’s estate stemming from taxes the estate owed.

Brown died on Christmas Day 2006 and his estate have been mired in chaos with business managers and love children crawling out of the woodwork ever since.
