Gunfire broke out last night between police and the armed militia men who’d taken occupation of Oregon’s Malheur National Wildlife Refuge — with the gunmen’s beloved media spokesman now dead, and leader Ammon Bundy in police custody!

Ammon’s nephew was also wounded as shots were exchanged.

LaVoy Finicum died after police pulled over a group of occupiers — including Ammon Bundy — who were traveling down Highway 395 to attend a local community meeting.

Cops say that everyone in the car surrendered except for Finicum and Bundy’s nephew, Ryan.

“I’m just not going to prison,” Finicum had ominously warned earlier, while serving as the media spokesman for the group.

“There’s no way that I’m going to sit in a concrete cell where I can’t see the stars and roll out my bedroll on the ground.”

Finicum added: “It’s OK. I’ve lived a good life. God’s been gracious to me.”

Sources in Oregon said that it’s still not clear who fired first in the deadly exchange.

Finicum had been one of the original occupiers who took over the Oregon refuge on January 2 as part of a protest against the federal government.

Ammon is the son of Cliven Bundy, a Nevada rancher who made headlines in 2014 with his own armed standoff against the federal government over paying grazing fees.
