OBAMA GRILLED BY THE VIEW HOSTS

The ladies of The View love to talk politics, so it’s no surprise they had plenty of questions for presidential candidate Barack Obama when taped a guest appearance for the show airing Friday.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked Obama about his pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who has come under scrutiny for his controversial sermons. “It was a snippet of a man,” Obama said. “I think he’s saddened by what’s happened, and I told him I feel badly that he has been characterized just in this one way — and people haven’t seen this broader aspect of him.”

Meanwhile, Joy Behar questioned Obama on the mudslinging in politics. Obama said, “I think that the way to handle attacks, wherever they’re coming from — and, you know, there’ve been some tough punches thrown in this Democratic primary … — the way I like to handle attacks is to answer honestly, swiftly, forcefully and truthfully. I think the truth is a powerful weapon.” On a lighter note, Obama joked about a new report that says he is related to Brad Pitt. “I think he got the better-looking side of the gene pool.”
