With AMERICAN IDOL ratings in free-fall, a secret plot to replace judge MARIAH CAREY with JENNIFER LOPEZ was kayoed by tough talking lawyers — report.
According to showbiz insider, The Hollywood Reporter, Carey who was ballyhooed as hot addition to the flagging American Idol last season responded with legal threats from her lawyers when she learned she was marked for banishment.
The secret plot reputedly had Mariah to be immediately replaced by former judge J. Lo.
According to THR, while Carey’s litigious threat put the kibosh on that potential setback, Idol’s producers are said to still be looking for a replacement for her and possibly Nicki Minaj as well as that combustible chemistry experiment was Minajh;s volatility.
Meanwhile, Idol producers are still negotiating with the ever-popular “Jenny from the Block” to appear on the Idol season finale in an effort to drive viewership numbers up.
But Fox said via statement ,"This is just another ridiculous Idol judge rumor, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale."
Meanwhile, Idol’s ratings continue to drop, making headlines last week when the prelim numbers for a results show were soundly beaten by a repeat of CBS “The Big Bang Theory”.
