Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are scurrying to prepare a rush summer wedding before the birth of their second child, The ENQUIRER has learned.
And we can also reveal that the Good Charlotte rocker – who was born Joel Combs but used his mother’s maiden name after his father walked out on his family more than a decade ago – had his last name legally changed to Madden in April in preparation for the upcoming nuptials.
"Nicole wants to take Joel’s last name," said a close friend of the couple. "When she marries Joel, she’s going to become Nicole Madden.
"She doesn’t want any confusion with her kids, either. They’re all going to be Maddens."
The ENQUIRER reported in March that Nicole finally gave in to Joel’s pleading for a second child. And now that the baby is on the way, Nicole persuaded Joel to agree to a small ceremony in Los Angeles sometime in July – BEFORE the baby arrives, says the friend. The baby, reportedly a boy, is due later in the summer.
The couple is planning to invite about 75 family members and close friends to a garden wedding at the Beverly Hills estate of Nicole’s father, singer Lionel Richie, continued the friend.
