MOVIE REVIEW: THOR

Marvel’s new movie THOR is awesome — and then some!

The film directed by noted Shakespearean guru KENNETH BRANAGH takes the movie goer  beyond the farthest star to a realm where magic and science are one – the fabled home of the Norse gods, Asgard.

The latest actioner from the House of Ideas, Marvel Entertainment, delivers big time as CHRIS HEMSWORTH (last seen in the Star Trek reboot as Captain Kirk’s Daddy) embodies the fallen god of thunder.

NATALIE PORTMAN is pitch perfect as mortal love interest Jane Foster who falls for the blonde beefcake hero.

TOM HIDDLESTONE is surprisingly low-key and believable as Thor’s half brother, the god of deceit and mischief, Loki.

What about SIR ANTHONY HOPKINS as all-father Odin, you doth wonder? Nuff said, true believers!

The epic boasts interstellar combat across the realm of legend with all the reverential gravitas of Branagh’s earlier Henry V adaptation and the unbridled sense of wonder of an epic fantasy adventure.

Without giving too much away (because that IS half the fun) Thor’s odyssey unfolds as he banished from the heavenly realm of Asgard for defying his father, Odin, the King of the Gods.

How Thor redeems himself (AND kicks major ass) is 2 hours of slam bang, jaw- dropping OMG-oodness one might expect from a super production from Marvel as they transform the comic book chronicles of the hammer wielding thunder god  to eye bleeding big screen joy — in 3D, no less.

Tech creds are top notch.

Fun for the kids (maybe even a little scary for the young ‘uns) and with plenty of wry humor and bold adventure for adults, Thor is truly Mighty!

Say hello to the first blockbuster (literally) of the summer!

POP FYI: The Mighty Thor first appeared in Journey Into Mystery comics in 1963 and was co-created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Larry Leiber – the true warriors three!
