ROBERT REDFORD to play ORAL ROBERTS in controversial new biopic.

Director Jonathan (Silence of the Lambs) Demme has been linked to reip the lid off the secret world of evangelical ministers with "Come Sunday" and is enlisting Robert Redford to play the late Oral Roberts, The Hollywood Reporter said.

The film chronicles the true story of Carlton Pearson, a renowned evangelical minister in Tulsa, Okla., who stirred up a fire & no brimstone controversy saying there is no hell.

He promptly goes down the chute to his own personal hell -- losing everything and must rebuild his church and his family and find his own personal faith.

Oral Roberts, the early pioneer of TV evangelism, reached millions of followers all over the world for more than 60 years.

Redford, whose recent creds include pic "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "All Is Lost" is said to be ready to seal the deal.
