OMG! WTF?! Gossip Girl has launched a steamy new ad campaign launched at critics of the CW teen beat soaper.
To get viewers in the mood for upcoming season, the show’s marketers have switched from racy, word play to steamy images culled with critical quotes from the media.
Coupled with quote from the Boston Globe "Every Parents Nightmare" is a steamy close-up of Serena (Blake Lively) being nuzzled on the neck with eyes wide shut.
"Mind-Blowingly Inappropriate" was lifted from Parents Television Council which blasted GG for salacious content ever since it first premed.
"I think it reeks of desperation, if they have to position themselves as so edgy and so controversial that they’ve been called out by us," PTC director of communications Melissa Henson stated.
The CW wanted "well-written headlines that are provocative and would catch our viewers’ attention and, in a tongue-in-cheek way, capture what the show is about," countered marketing honcho Rick Haskins.
"A Nasty Piece of Work", indeed!
UPDATE: The CW will resume streaming Gossip Girl eps online this season.
