MELISSA GILBERT removes ex-BRUCE BOXLEITNER from her life – AND her arm.

The “Little House on the Prairie” star, 47,  has had her “Bruce” tattoo removed to make room for one dedicated to her new beau, say sources.

The popular “Dancing with the Stars” contestant will soon honor her new French lover, 42-year-old Thierry Gauchet, by inking her arm with his name.

Melissa, who played Laura Ingalls on the beloved frontier TV drama, sported a tattoo on her left arm that read, “Bruce & Melissa 1-1-95,” over a red heart. The actress and the former “Scarecrow and Mrs. King” star, 61, were married on New Year’s Day 1995.

Melissa and her husband of 16 years separated March 1, 2011 – and now the actress and her “Bruce” tattoo have also parted ways.

“It has been mostly removed with a laser,” revealed a friend. “You can still see it rather faintly, but it will be all gone after ‘DWTS’ is over.

“Then Melissa wants to have a new one with her boyfriend Thierry’s name on it and most likely a 7, which is his lucky number.”

As ENQUIRER recently reported, Melissa met the handsome vintage sports car salesman during a trip to Paris over New Year’s. He’s since come to visit her in the States.

“Thierry arrived in Los Angeles April 5 for an extended stay and to cheer Melissa on from the ‘Dancing with the Stars’ audience,” disclosed the friend.

“She’s ecstatic that he’s come here to be with her.”

The French hunk whose body is already adorned with tattoos – plans to add more skin art for Melissa, say sources.

And soon the colorful pair may become ink-corporated.

“It’s already become very serious between the two of them,” said the friend.

“They’ve talked about the possibility of getting married, but that’s down the road. In the meantime, they’ll pledge their love in ink!”
