The 16th birthday party that MELISSA GILBERT threw for her son Michael Boxleitner turned out to be anything BUT sweet.
A young guest at the bash – held at Melissa’s home on Oct. 8 – got so drunk on smuggled-in booze that he passed out and was rushed to the hospital!
“One sweet boy snuck in not one but two bottles of whiskey,” the former “Little House on the Prairie” star, 47, posted on her Facebook page.
“There was puking, passing out and a trip to the ER.”
Ironically, Melissa – now divorcing her hubby of 16 years, actor Bruce Boxleitner – fought her own battle with the bottle.
In her 2009 memoir “Prairie Tale,” the now booze-free actress wrote that when her drinking was at its worst she was drinking two bottles of wine a day.
“The birthday incident was gut-wrenching for Melissa due to her own struggle,” an insider said.
“And having this happen to her son’s friend just months after she filed for divorce has placed a great deal of stress on Melissa.
"But she is finding some relief by helping the boy out.”
