Fueled by social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, Mad Mel became the latest celeb to be the crux of a sweeping rumor crisis perpetuated by internet search engines like Google and Bing.
Trending wildly over the weekend, Mel was a) either dead b) relocated down under or WORSE.
One blogger who posted "OMG MEL GIBSON RIP" clarified his Tweet much later after the hysteria passed.
"I meant his career was dead."
Another rumor takes hold of the blogosphere much like the "death of Johnny Depp" in January.
Gibson’s rep confirmed he is alive and well and didn’t want to participate "in this nonsense".
He has other far more pressing issues at hand to deal with.
