Veteran TV cartoon voice and "McHale's Navy" star BOB HASTINGS dead at 89.

 

Allison Knowles sconfirmed her grandfather died Monday in his Burbank, California, home.

 

Hastings won worldwide acclaim for his role on "McHale's Navy" as Lt. Carpenter, a bumbling yes-man.

 

The Brooklyn-born Hastings began his career at age 11 on radio dramas before branching into early TV in its infancy with a role on "Captain Video and His Video Rangers" in 1949.

 

Other early acting gigs included a recurring role on the military comedy "The Phil Silvers Show" aka ""Sgt. Bilko".

 

Later TV appearances included "Ironside," "The Dukes of Hazzard," "Major Dad" and "Murder, She Wrote."

Other memorable roles were on "All in the Family" and "General Hospital."

 

Among his many voice over roles for cartoons were Beany on Beany and Cecil", Superboy in the "The New Adventgures of Superman" (1966) and Commissioner Gordon on the    1990s "Batman: The Animated Series".
