MATT LAUER’S WEEKEND AT BERNIE MADOFF’S

description

Matt Lauer hasn’t lost a dime in the Bernie Madoff financial crisis, but still feels like a victim.

The two men are neighbors in a posh Park Avenue apartment building – and Matt’s fed up with the media attention Bernie has brought upon his usually quiet home, sources told The ENQUIRER.

"The upscale building had been a very peaceful place, but with Bernie living there, it’s turned into an absolute circus. Throngs of media people and onlookers stand outside to try to see him coming or going," an eyewitness said. "Matt is very upset over it.

"I saw Matt wigging out when he arrived home and tried to get in the front entrance past hordes of photographers. He was yelling, ‘Go home, there’s no show here. Leave us alone!’"

Matt, 51, lives with his wife, Annette, and their three young children in a mid-floor $5 million co-op apartment. Bernie lives in an even grander $7 million penthouse in the same building.

After a hard week of work on the Today show, Matt often wants to relax with his family at home. But the noise and commotion outside his building has made it difficult for him to enjoy his weekends, says the source.

"All this unwanted attention, with media from around the world camped outside Matt’s door at various times of the day and night, is driving him bonkers," continued the eyewitness. "He hates the clogged sidewalk out front, and he’s fearful for his kids."

Despite the magnitude of his scam, Bernie, 70, was allowed to remain out of prison while awaiting trial on $10 million bail.
