Marie Osmond: Too Goody-Goody For ‘Grease’

The pop star ended up as a Rydell High dropout!

Wholesome Marie Osmond almost teamed with John Travolta in “Grease,” but she nixed the gig because she didn’t like the script!

Marie was the one that producers wanted when casting the musical — not Olivia Newton-John — but a source revealed she “dropped out in protest,” unhappy that her character, Sandy, transforms from a sweetie to a leather-wearing bad girl.

Producers also cast an eye toward Marie’s brother Donny to play Teen Angel! But they chose former teen idol Frankie Avalon ― and still needed a Sandy.

That’s when they took a look at Australian songbird Olivia, who was 29 and not quite sold on the film. “I was kind of anxious,” she said, noting “Toomorrow,” her previous movie, “was a flop.”

Olivia can laugh about it now — she turned the film into a smash, and Marie is still a pal of hers!
