LOST IN SPACE STAR R.I.P.

description

The man inside the TV robot – Bob May, gone at 69.

The veteran actor passed of congestive heart failure on Sunday, his daughter announced.

Despite providing animatronic antics for the 1960s kid classic Lost In Space‘s beloved Robot,  May didn’t do the "Danger! Danger!" voicing.  That was done by announcer Dick Tufield.

"He always said he got the job because he fit in the robot suit," star June Lockhart, who played space mum Maureen Robinson, recalled.

"He just happened to be on the studio lot when someone saw him and sent him to see (producer) Irwin Allen about the part. Allen said, ‘If you can fit in the suit, you’ve got the job.’"  The rest as they say is history.

May also appeared as both actor and stuntman on many iconic TV shows including McHale’s Navy, Time Tunnel and Hawaiian Eye.  The robotic thesp was a frequent guest at fan events and conventions around the country.

May and his wife recently lost their home last November during the wildfires that engulfed San Fernando Valley.
