LIZ’S DEVOTION TO ROCK HUDSON

description

When it was first revealed ROCK HUDSON was dying a slow agonizing death from AIDS in 1985, LIZ TAYLOR rushed to be with her life long friend.

As The ENQUIRER first reported back in 1985, few Americans had much less heard nor knew of the ravaging effects of the HIV virus then emblazoned across the media as AIDS until Hollywood superstar Rock Hudson revealed he was dying from the sexually transmitted disease.

Though Hollywood insiders all knew that Hudson was gay, it was a closely guarded secret.

During his last grim days one of Rock’s regular visitors was Liz who costarred with the star in the epic Giant.

Liz soon became a leader in AIDS awareness and in 1984 she hosted the first ever AIDS fundraiser and learned first hand the stigma against the disease.

Liz ran into "seven months of absolute and abject rejection" before enlisting supporters for the seeming abhorrent cause.

"I thought, ‘This is unbelievable what is going on! People aren’t aware of the problem because of the stigma.’" Liz said in an interview.

"When I spoke with Rock’s doctors, I leaned more and more about the disease," Liz had said.  "It was my anger that involved me with AIDS and it still is. Nobody asks for this disease.  Nobody deserves it."

When Rock died on October 2, 1985, Liz became a tireless champion in the fight against the deadly disease.

It was a war waged on behalf of her beloved Rock until the day Elizabeth Taylor died.
