He once stumbled into fame by marrying a screen legend – but Elizabeth Taylor’s blue-collar groom Larry Fortensky is spending his sad final days in squalor! The 63-year-old former construction worker is “living like a hermit” in the isolation of Menifee, Calif., sources told The National ENQUIRER.
His sister Donna is caring for Larry in a modest rental home that sits on a property surrounded by RV trailers – more than 20 years after Larry married Elizabeth in a fairytale wedding at Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch!
“For a while, Larry was raising chickens, but now he’s pretty much down and out – his lifestyle is light-years away from when he was traveling with Liz around the world, and living at her fabulous gated mansion in Bel Air,” a friend told The ENQUIRER.
Said another source: “When Larry was with Liz, he was the toast of the town. Now he’s a broken down nobody, living among the tumbleweeds!”
The humble hardhat famously met the “Cleopatra” star at the Betty Ford Center when both were battling drug and alcohol problems. Their elaborate nuptials took place on Oct. 6, 1991, with the groom, 39, in a dashing white tux. His bride was 20 years older, and wearing a $25,000 Valentino gown. The pair lasted four years before they split. Liz reportedly gave Larry $1.5 million – plus a monthly $5,000 allowance, later reduced to $2,500 a month.
After their divorce, Larry was arrested on a drug charge, and later for domestic violence against a girlfriend. He came close to death after falling at his $450,000 house in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. – and spent several weeks in a coma.
“These days, Larry doesn’t do much. Because of the past accident, it’s still difficult for him to walk a lot,” said the friend. “He spends a lot of his time watching TV!”
