LEVI JOHNSTON: I WANT BRISTOL BACK!

Bristol Palin's ex-fiancé says he wants to get back together with his baby mama.

Levi Johnston confirmed his breakup with the teenage daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to Good Morning America in a car-side interview that aired Monday.

"It's just us not, me not being mature enough, or something, and having a kid and thinking ... it could be better — better for us to separate for a while," Levi reluctantly mumbled.

Levi says he and fiancée Bristol, who gave birth to their son Tripp on Dec. 27, will "just remain friends for now."

Asked if they are on civil speaking terms, Levi said, "Yeah. For the most part."

Levi adds that he hopes to reconcile with Bristol. "I'd like to get back together with her. I don't know what she's thinking."

He says he can see his son "whenever I want to."
