The student shooter, identified by witnesses as freshman Jaylen Fryberg, opened fire Friday morning just before 11 a.m. local time inside the cafeteria at Marysville Pilchuck High School, 35 miles north of Seattle. 

Approximately 2,500 students attend the high school. 

A student at the school tweeted  “one of the kids in the lunchroom started shooting and everyone booked it.”

“Not in a million years do you expect it to be your school,” said another.

Federal law enforcement official said Fryberg killed himself.  

Three students, two girls and a boy, were shot in the head and are in "very critical condition" at Providence Regional Hospital, Dr. Joanne Roberts said.

A fourth student, a boy, was in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
