KITTY FANTASTICO!

description

Curiosity almost killed Lucky the cat, but he lived up to his name when he fell 26 stories from a high-rise apartment…and survived!   Although the adorable feline suffered a broken jaw, a broken toe and a collapsed lung, he’s back on his feet after spending five days in a veterinary hospital.

"He’s doing great. He’s eating and running around the apartment like his old self. He’s awesome," Lucky’s owner Keri Hostetler told The ENQUIRER. Keri, 30, lives on the 32nd floor of a Manhattan apartment building with her husband Andrew. They got Lucky, a 3-year-old Bengal cat, as a kitten from a pet store.

"While we were debating names, he jumped from the couch to the dining room table, slid all the way across and stopped right on the very edge. We said, ‘Wow! That was incredibly lucky’ – and that’s how he got his name," she said.

Little did they know that Lucky would someday live up to his name in a much more dramatic fashion. On May 13, Lucky slipped out an open window while Keri was airing out a bedroom. "I thought I’d shut the bedroom door while I went downstairs to do some laundry. But when I came back up, I saw the bedroom door was open, and Lucky was missing," said Keri.

Even though the window was cracked just a few inches, Lucky squeezed through and climbed out on the window ledge
.
Window washer John Hayes was working on a high-rise directly across the street and captured Lucky’s high-flying adventure on camera.

When Keri rushed to the open window, Hayes and his partner waved to her and shouted that the cat had fallen, but was still alive.

Lucky had landed on a lounge chair, cracking it in half. Then he got up and walked a few steps to a grill cover and curled up inside. Keri found him there and rushed him to the vet.

"People can’t believe he fell 26 stories and lived," she said. "They say, ‘You should change his name to Miracle.’"
