Keanu had better hit the brakes and take a good look at himself!
The onetime matinee idol appeared bloated, boozy and out of shape as he set sail for the recent Cannes Film Festival, guzzling champagne with a mystery blonde aboard the yacht “Odessa” on May 19.
“I barely recognized Keanu,” said an insider. “He was disheveled and unshaven as if he had just awakened. His clothes were so rumpled he looked like a bum.”
The 48-year-old star has embarked on a second career as a director and apparently no longer cares about his appearance.
“I think he believes colleagues won’t take him seriously if he still looks like a screen hunk,” said the source. “He’s gotten very jowly and unkempt.”
Keanu attended Cannes to promote his directorial debut, “Man of Tai Chi,” a film loosely based on the life of stuntman Tiger Chen.
The main character, played by Chen, is a martial arts expert struggling to maintain traditional values in modern society. Keanu plays a villain who lures him into underground fighting.
“If Keanu’s directing career takes off, he’d consider giving up acting entirely,” revealed the source.
That’s not surprising since the actor hasn’t had a hit since 2003, when he scored with both the “Matrix Revolutions” and “Something’s Gotta Give.”
Noted the source: “It’s been a long time since his glory days in ‘Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ and ‘Point Break.’”
Meanwhile, Keanu says he’s been eager to try directing for a long time but admits his motivation is “also tied to getting older.”
