Katie Couric will make her first trip to a war zone when she anchors the CBS Evening News from Iraq next week. Couric is planning the trip in anticipation of a crucial military report on the progress of troop surge. Couric will broadcast from Baghdad next Tuesday and Wednesday (Sept. 4 and 5), then from Damascus on Thursday and Friday (Sept. 6 and 7).
“You can’t help but get a very detached perspective when you’re not there and you’re not witnessing things firsthand,” Couric told The Associated Press. “I’m curious about very basic questions regarding living conditions, about how much fear there is in the street, about how the soldiers really are doing.”
