Jon Polito has passed away at the age of 65 — after a long career in classic movies such as “Miller’s Crossing” and memorable turns on “Seinfeld” and the first season of the crime drama “Homicide.”

The star —married to husband Darryl Armbruster since 2000 — worked constantly as a very familiar face, including a recent recurring role on “Modern Family” as the former best friend (and main business rival) of Ed O’Neill’s character.

Polito became part of the “Seinfeld” legacy as the jealous superintendent Silvio mocking man-purses in the “Reverse Peephole” episode — and made plenty of fans with his role as Det. Steve Crosetti on the first season of “Homicide” in 1993.

Jon’s death was announced by director John McNaughton.
