JOHN EDWARDS' key legal advisor in his conspiracy trial drops out after “conflict of interest” questions arise!

Wade Smith, a key member of the legal team defending John Edwards against campaign finance charges, will not represent him at his upcoming trial following questions about a potential conflict of interest.

Smith’s conflict of interest stems from a conversation with a financial advisor for 100 year old Listerine heiress Rachel "Bunny' Mellon who gave heavily to EdwardsSUSH fund along with late Dallas banker Fred Baron.

Smith reportedly told Mellon’s advisor that Edwards knew the money was intended to help him, which conflicts with statements by Edwards.

Edwards had said the contributions was intended as “gifts” not as hush money to buy a conspiracy of silence about his then-pregnant mistress Rielle Hunter during his failed 2008 Presidential bid.

As The ENQUIRER reported federal prosecutors have charged Edwards with six count of criminal charges including conspiracy to misuse misuse of Presidential Campaign funds.

The political trial of the century is slated to begin January 2012.

Since Edwards is now without key counsel, insiders tell The ENQUIRER he will attempt to have the trial postponed yet again.
