Mere days after the Kentucky Derby a promising young jockey has been found dead in his car at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky

Michael Baze’s corpse was discovered inside his Cadillac Escalade in the stable area near gate 5, the Jefferson County deputy coroner told media.

Louisville Metro Police were handling the matter as a death investigation and that no foul play was suspected at this time.

Wesley said an autopsy will be conducted along with toxicology tests.

Baze was from a prominent family of jockeys, including the sport’s all-time win leader, his second cousin Russell Baze.

Baze had rode Kentucky Derby runner-up Nehro to a second-place finish in the Louisiana Derby before Corey Nakatani took over for the Kentucky Derby.
