OSCAR bosses desperate to find innovative new wave director JEAN-LUC GODARD but he's disappeared!

Officials from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences want to applaud the 79-year-old Breathless director for his impact on cinema at a glitzy ceremony in November.

All attempts to contact the notoriously reclusive Godard have failed, the Hollywood Reporter says.

AMPAS exec director Bruce Davis said, "We've been attempting to reach him since seven o'clock Tuesday evening and we have as yet had no confirmation.

"We have tried by telephone, by fax, by emails to various friends and associates. We have sent a formal letter by FedEx.

"But we have certainly not been told he will show up at this point."

Godard is best known for Breathless, an innovative B-movie crime film homage starring Jean Paul- Belmondo and Jean Seberg, Alphaville, a pop art futuristic satire starring his then-wife and frequent collaborator Anna Karinaand Contempt, a portrait of a marriage disintegrating under the burden of art, cinema AND Brigitte Bardot.

Godard reputedly doesn't like to fly because he can't smoke on board.
