Jason Aldean is trapped in a family feud that erupted when the grandmother of his girlfriend Brittany Kerr denied her granddaughter had destroyed the country star’s marriage.
“She is not a home wrecker,” a fuming Louvada Barbee told an interviewer. “She had nothing to do with the breakup of their marriage. He left his wife long before they got together… long before she even talked to him.”
But some insiders recall a far different story.
Back in 2001, The “My Kinda Party” singer married his high school sweetheart Jessica Ussery, but she seemed to be far from his mind when he was caught red-handed making out with sexy former “American Idol” contestant Brittany at a trendy Hollywood nightclub in Sept. 2012.
Jason, 37, filed for divorce seven months later, and he’s since struck up a full-blown romance with 26-year-old Brittany.
She even walked the red carpet with him June 4 at the CMT Awards.
Her grandmother’s passionate defense of the relationship “just seems like a blatant attempt to rewrite history,” an Aldean family friend told The National ENQUIRER.
“Things weren’t great at home between Jason and Jessica at the time – he was out on the road 200 days a year, and Jessica was left home alone with their two young daughters,” said the friend.
“But they were very much still a couple, and Jessica believed they were working through their issues. They had been together for nearly 20 years, since 10th grade in high school, and you don’t just throw that away.
“Brittany’s family’s comments were just ridiculous – if they weren’t doing anything wrong, why did they later apologize (for the romance)?”
Unfortunately, the comments from Brittany’s grandmother have opened old wounds between Jason and his ex-wife, who share custody of their daughters, said the family friend. “It’s an uncomfortable situation.”
