Celine Dion is worth a whopping $720 million – but all the money in the world can’t restore her cancer-stricken husband René Angélil’s good health.
Now the ailing 72-year-old is stepping aside after three decades of managing his superstar wife’s career, The National ENQUIRER has learned.
“In a sad move that signals René may be fading, he and Celine decided it’s best he no longer make her every career move,” a source told The ENQUIRER.
“It’s painful to both of them because René has been her manager since he discovered her as a teenager in Montreal.”
As The ENQUIRER has reported, René secretly underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his throat just before Christmas.
“It came at the worst time for Celine, right before the holidays,” said the source. “She had to put on a brave face for the sake of their three boys.”
Since the surgery, the couple, who have been married for 19 years, have been flying between their Las Vegas home and medical specialists in Los Angeles.
They recently relaxed in the Bahamas, and during that vacation, Celine, 46, apparently persuaded René to hand her career over to their longtime friend Aldo Giampaolo, a former head of Cirque du Soleil’s business unit, said the source.
“Celine’s only concern is to keep René around as long as possible,” said the source. “Her prayers are with him.”
