A MISSED flight led to the alleged DUI bust of straight-laced “Criminal Minds” star THOMAS GIBSON.
The 50-year-old family man decided to drown his sorrows after he was late getting to the airport for a flight from Los Angeles to his home in San Antonio, Texas, say sources.
“Ironically, Thomas was supposed to be home with his family over that weekend,” said a close source. “But he missed his flight for work reasons. Thomas doesn’t like being without his family and may have had a little more to drink than he should have because he was lonely without them.”
The former “Dharma & Greg” hunk’s high-flying escapade crash-landed at 1:05 a.m. on Jan. 6 after he plowed through a barricade set up to keep cars off the course during a nighttime half-marathon.
The actor was initially stopped for trying to drive through the closed area, but Los Angeles police officers smelled alcohol on his breath and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence after he refused to take a Breathalyzer test, according to reports.
The cops hauled him in and he was released on $15,000 bail.
Gibson has been married for 19 years to San Antonio native Christine, and they’re parents to sons James, 13, Travis, 10, and 8-year-old daughter Agatha.
After the embarrassing episode, “Thomas admitted he’d grown frustrated with all the closed streets and roadblocks through downtown,” according to the source.
“He said, ‘I felt like a rat in a maze who was just trying to get out!’”
The handsome actor vowed never to do it again, noting: “I learned my lesson the hard way.”
