A set of paintings and sketches a British auction claims are by Adolph Hitler sold for a mind-numbing $143,000!
Among the images is a self portrait signed A.H. of young man with an X above his head sitting at the edge of a stone bridge.
"I don’t think they’re fakes," remarked Richard Westwood-Brookes, art and history expert at Mullocks the auction house that offered the Fuehrer’s pre-Nazi art.
Prior to his rise to power and becoming synonymous with pure evil, Hitler is believed to have painted hundreds of pieces in a failed art career. Westwood-Brookes also remarked Hitler’s works had a notorious track record of attracting high bids but his efforts were "hardly Picasso".
The buyer, a John Ratledge, 46, said he planned to hang the art at his home or perhaps his office.
