Hillary Clinton's mother, Dorothy Rodham, 92, has died in Washington, D.C.
According to a statement from the Clinton family she passed after midnight at age 92.
Secretary of State Clinton had announced she was canceling a trip to Istanbul and London Monday to stay with her ailing mother.
No medical information was disclosed.
In a debate during the 2008 Presidential campaign, Hillary Clinton called her mother her inspiration.
"I owe it to my mother, who never got a chance to go to college, who had a very difficult childhood, but who gave me a belief that I could do whatever I set my mind," she said.
The Clintons plan a private service, AP reported.
