Follieri will serve more than four years in prison for his guilty plea to wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy in a Manhattan real estate scheme.

Get Smart star Hathaway who got smart - literally- dumped long time BF Follieri just prior to the FBI busting down the doors to his Manhattan penthouse.

Prosecutors charged the 30 year-old con artist posed as the Vatican's representative to the US, fleecing investors that the Roman Catholic Church would sell property at discounted prices.

According to the Feds, Follieri claimed that not only had the Vatican formally appointed him to manage its financial affairs but that he even met with the Pope in Rome.

Follieri was so adept at carrying out this Vatican connection that he kept ceremonial robes, including the robes of senior clergymen, in his office.

After an investor sought an audit of the partnership, Follieri's scheme fell apart.

It had been widely reported that Hathaway assisted in the FBI bust despite having once served on the board of Folleri's philanthropic foundation.  Hathaway's rep denied the thesp was active in investigation.

The Vatican has declined to comment on the case, according to AP
