GMA co-host George Stephanopoulos is using his clout to help wife Ali Wentworth join Whoopi & Rosie on “The View”!

The National ENQUIRER has learned that George – newly named to a top spot at ABC News – wants Ali on the daytime talk show now that creator Barbara Walters has retired, and Sherri Shepherd and Jenny McCarthy have recently been axed.

It’s been reported that one of the open seats has been offered to comedian Mario Cantone.

“George is a bigwig at ABC now,” a source tells The ENQUIRER. “If he wants Ali on ‘The View,’ it’s going to be hard for the network to say no.”

With George in the anchor seat, “GMA” has topped NBC’s longtime ratings powerhouse “Today,” becoming the most watched morning news show.

The 53-year-old was recently promoted to chief anchor of special events and breaking news on ABC’s “World News.”

While his career skyrocketed, actress wife Ali – who’s appeared in the hit films “It’s Complicated” and “Jerry Maguire” – slowed down her showbiz career to raise their daughters Elliott, 11, and Harper, 9, sources say.

“But now that the girls are both well into their school years, ‘The View’ would be a great landing spot for her,” a friend said. Ali, 49, was “heavily in the running” to join “The View” in 2013, but she was ultimately passed over, the friend added. “He (George) doesn’t want to see that happen again.”
