JAMES AVERY, best known for his role as WILL SMITH's Uncle Phil on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," has died. He was 68.
According to online reports, "Fresh Prince" costar ALFONSO RIBEIRO, who played his son, Carlton, broke the news Wednesday on Twitter. "The world has lost a truly special man. I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away," he wrote. "He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly."
Avery reportedly had undergone surgery recently and passed away from complications at an L.A. hospital.
Recently, Avery appeared on "Grey's Anatomy." He also guest-starred on "That '70s Show," "CSI," and "The Closer."
