Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson has a perfectly good explanation for why she was caught on video accepting money in exchange for access to her ex-husband, Prince Andrew: The Dutchess was drunk!
On Tuesday’s Oprah Winfrey Show, Fergie explained what led her to accept $40,000 cash in exchange for a meeting with her ex. She says in addition to trying to help a friend in need of money, she was drunk during the exchange with an undercover reporter from News of the World.
“I’m aware of the fact that I’ve been drinking, you know, that I was not in my right place,” Fergie told Oprah.
The royal reject claims she was trying to get the money to help a pal. “A friend of mine needed $38,000 urgently,” she says. However, at the last minute, Fergie says she asked for additional money — a whopping $725,000 — to pull herself out of debt.
“I was so out of control with desperation where I’d reached a point of no return,” Fergie explained. “I was looking for quick fixes in the places I wouldn’t normally look. I think I’ve been a huge over-trusting, idiotic, stupid woman.”
The Dutchess, who says she has since returned the money, admitted that she damaged not only her own reputation but, “I have, through my actions, hurt millions of people, my friends and family foremost.” Now, “I will beg for forgiveness,” but “I have got to go forward.”
