WHO is the one man who tore OPRAH WINFREY’s heart in two?! The married secret lover who drove her to leave a suicide note addressed to GAYLE KING!!
The man behind her Oprah’s secret shame is Baltimore disc jockey Tim Watts.
Watts has never spoken publicly about his intimate relationship with Oprah. But now for the first time ever, he has responded to The ENQUIRER about the love affair that Oprah has kept hidden for nearly three decades.
“Friends are hard to come by, so I’ll hold onto the few that I have,” Watts, 59, told The ENQUIRER. “What happened between me and Oprah took place a long time ago and we both learned from it. I have no hard feelings toward her, and she has none toward me.
“We were both young, and at that age people do stupid things they might regret later. We both moved on and are in good places in our lives.”
Now 57 and a billionaire, Oprah fell for Watts when she was working as a production assistant at WJZ-TV in Baltimore in 1981. She became obsessed with Watts and decided that she wanted to be his bride, insiders say.
“Tim was the man that Oprahwould have married in a heartbeat,” divulged a source close to the TV titan. “He was the guy that she thought one day would be her husband.”
But when Oprah followed Watts home one night, she discovered that he already had a wife and children.
“Oprah was so upset she smashed her car into a tree,” the source said.
When confronted, Watts told Oprah he wouldn’t leave his wife. The breakup left her so devastated that she wrote a “suicide note” to her best friend Gayle King, who was working at the same TV station.
The note prompted Gayle and other friends to keep tabs on Oprah 24/7, but then she had a flash of insight that changed her mind.
Oprah said she realized that if she killed herself, Watts’ life would go on – with someone else – so what was the point of dying?
Still, the disgrace of their forbidden affair cast a 30-year-long shadow over her life, said the source.
“It was definitely a learning experience for Oprah,” noted the insider.
“Even though she’s ashamed of the relationship, she’s kept her passionate love letters from Tim for 30 odd years. She just can’t let go of them.
"She’s got them hidden under lock and key, and won’t tell anyone the exact details!”
