MELISSA GILBERT was so lonely after breaking up with her French boyfriend, she rushed to the altar too quickly with “thirtysomething” star Timothy Busfield, fear pals.
Wearing a strapless red gown, the 49-year-old actress said “I do” with Timothy, 55, in a private ceremony April 24 at Santa Barbara’s picturesque San Ysidro Ranch.
But Melissa’s ex-boyfriend Thierry Gauchet revealed that the mother of two really wanted to marry him last year – and he turned her down.
“We broke up because I was not really ready to be married, even though Melissa is a very nice woman,” Thierry, 42, told The ENQUIRER in an exclusive interview.
“I was in Paris, she was in Los Angeles, and she never thought about living here.”
Meanwhile, Thierry says he enjoys both his freedom and his job as a vintage car salesman – and wouldn’t give up either. But he cherishes the time he spent
with the actress, saying: “We rode motorbikes in the Moroccan desert, we went to some strange places in Turkey, and she had a good time. I have very nice memories. She is still in my heart.”
Melissa has been married twice before – to Bo Brinkman and Bruce Boxleitner – and had a painful public breakup with Rob Lowe.
So her protective pals are concerned that she jumped into marriage again after just a four-month engagement.
“Timothy can be a nice enough guy,” said a family friend, “but he has a LOT of baggage.”
