ELIZABETH SMART ABDUCT TRIAL

description

The trial in the abduction and kidnapping of ELIZABETH SMART is finally heading to trial after years of delays.

The delays coming from questions regarding the mental health of her accused kidnapper Brian David Mitchell, 57.

Mitchell is facing federal charges of kidnapping and unlawful transportation of a minor across state lines,
He allegedly abducted and transported Smart to San Diego in 2002.

If he is found guilty, Mitchell will spend the rest of his life behind bars in a federal prison.

"It’s certainly been a long time coming," Ed Smart, Elizabeth’s father said.

"We’re very confident in the prosecution."

Jury selection begins today in Salt Lake City in the trial of the itinerant street preacher in US District Court.

As soon as proceedings began, Mitchell was removed from chambers for singing "hymns".

Elizabeth is expected to testify against her accused kidnapper.
