DOUBLE HORROR FOR DEVASTATED “MINDY” PAM DAWBER

Robin Williams’ “MORK & MINDY” co-star PAM DAWBER reeling after her 2nd co-star dies suddenly.

When she learned of Robin’s death, his beloved TV Mindy, Pam issued a statement:  "I am completely and totally devastated. What more can be said?"

Yet, it was mere weeks ago that the anniversary of the vicious murder of her ”My Sister Sam” costar Rebecca Schaeffer made headlines again on its 25th anniversary.

After landing the show with Pam in 1986, Schaeffer was living with Pam and her husband Mark Harmon. She eventually moved out and that’s when tragedy struck.

In July 18, 1989, Schaeffer, 21, was fatally shot in the doorway of her Los Angeles apartment building by Robert John Bardo, an Arizona native. Bardo was obsessed with Schaeffer and had been stalking her for three years.

Bardo had written Schaeffer letters and tried to meet her at a studio where she worked. He tracked her down after paying a private investigator $250 to obtain her home address from the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

Like Mark David Chapman who murdered John Lennon, Bardo was fanatical about JD Salinger’s novel “Catcher in the Rye” and was carrying a copy when he pumped two rounds into the model/actress.

A neighbor heard the shots and screams and rushed to her door and found Schaeffer's body clad in a black robe, still twitching in the building's foyer.  Rebecca was rushed to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, clinging to life for 30 minutes before dying.

Nabbed in Tucson, Bardo was tried by prosecutor Marcia Clark who later would become world-famous in the OJ Simpson double murder trial.  He was sentenced to life imprisonment. Schaeffer's death prompted the passage of virulent anti-stalking laws in California.

Pam’s show sans her sister “Sam” sadly continued until its inevitable cancellation in 1988.
