CBS has fired Don Imus from his radio show, effective immediately, on a permanent basis. The news comes almost 24 hours after MSNBC decided to drop their simulcast of the “Imus in the Morning” radio program.
CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves announced his network’s decision on Thursday saying, “From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent.”
Originally Imus was given a two week suspension by both networks after he referred to Rutgers University’s women basketball players as “nappy-headed hos.” Pressure from Rev. Al Sharpton and viewers led to further action.
