DEXTER star Michael C. Hall has discovered the joys of eating WHAT?

AFTER beating cancer, Michael C. Hall has discovered the joy of healthy cooking – and a close pal says the “Dexter” star credits it with saving his life!

After undergoing chemotherapy for Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2010, the 42-year-old actor became interested in eating better. Since then he’s expanded that interest into fine cooking and has done everything from Asian to his own take on healthy Mexican, playing the role of chef in his Los Feliz, Calif., home.

“MICHAEL’S OBSESSED WITH healthy cooking. He says it’s become a form of therapy after the horrible few years he’s had,” his friend told The ENQUIRER.

“Right now he’s going through a Mediterranean diet phase. He’s using organic produce and extra-virgin olive oil to prepare fish and chicken dishes for himself and friends at his house on Sunday afternoons.”

Following his successful cancer treatment, Hall went back to work on the hit Showtime series. But then he suffered another blow when his marriage to “Dexter” co-star Jennifer Carpenter, who plays his sister Deb, ended.

“It might seem odd that they split up just when things began to look up for Michael,” said the friend. “But the experience changed both of them – and in Michael’s case, it was for the better.”

Along with developing new culinary skills, Hall is living sober and works out religiously, noted the source.

“After facing death, Michael was not going to waste what he calls a second shot at life,” said the friend.

“It’s actually a point of pride for him that he’s learned how to take care of himself properly. He gets a thrill out of serving a nutritious meal that he’s prepared. With cooking as a creative outlet, he’s not only more confident, he’s also full of energy.”
