DESPERATE WHITNEY HOUSTON EXTENDS REHAB STAY

WHITNEY HOUSTON has extended her stay in rehab in a desperate bid to stay alive avoid the same tragic death as drug-addled actor Jeff Conaway, sources say.

Family members pulled the plug on the 60-year-old “Taxi” star after a drug overdose left him in a coma, and insiders say the shaken singer has vowed not to let that happen to her.

“When Whitney heard that Jeff Conaway spent his last days unconscious and on life support, it was a real wake-up call for her,” a family insider divulged.

“Whitney never met Jeff, but she totally relates to his story. Just like her, he was trying to get his life together after years of struggling with drugs, but then he ended up in a coma and never woke up!

“Whitney said that if she didn’t get herself together, she could end up the same way – and she didn’t want her family, especially her daughter, to see her almost dead in a hospital bed.

“That’s the main reason she decided to extend her rehab for another four weeks.”

The 47-year-old superstar voluntarily entered an outpatient program at the Promises rehab facility in Malibu, Calif., in early May for drug and alcohol treatment, according to her rep.

Her 18-year-old daughter Bobbi Kristina – who was seen snorting cocaine in shocking photos published by The ENQUIRER earlier this year – entered a separate rehab facility at the same time.

As we recently reported, Whitney is also struggling to quit smoking after doctors told her that she’s suffering from the early stages of the deadly lung disease emphysema.

And after Bobbi Kristina successfully completed her rehab stint, Whitney ordered her to go back to their home in Georgia, another family insider revealed.

“Whitney doesn’t want Bobbi Kristina to see what a tough time she’s having battling her addictions,” the source told The ENQUIRER.

“She cries a lot and prays, ‘Lord don’t let me lose my voice!’
