Ex cop turned  LAW & ORDER actor DENNIS FARINA dead at 69.

The former Chicago cop, who first hit the mainstream TV as a thesp on Michael Mann's noir-ish “Crime Story” during the 1980s, has died at a Scottsdale, Ariz., hospital after suffering a blood clot in his lung.

Born Feb. 29, 1944, in Chicago, Farina was a city police officer before turning to acting in his late 30s AND nailing it.

Farina’s films including "Get Shorty," "snatch", "Saving Private Ryan" and "Midnight Run."

Among his many TV portrayals was Det. Joe Fontana on "Law & Order."

Dennis also toplined the HBO drama series "Luck" which was kayoed by a dead horse scandal.

Most recently, Farina appeared on Fox‘s “New Girl” giving Zooey Deschanel the what-have-yas.

Ironically, he had been filming the feature "Lucky Stiff" before passing.
