DEADLIEST CATCH CAPTAIN DIES

Phil Harris the reality show skipper who's adventures off the Alaska Coast formed the TV show Deadliest Catch passes at 53.

Harris suffered a massive stoke Jan 29 when the ship he captained Cornelia Marie was anchored in port at St Paul Island. The fishing star was choppered to Anchorage for immediate surgery.

Harris reality show which aired for 5 seasons was one of the Discovery Channel's more popular shows exposed the crab fishing industry in the frigid dangerous along the Bering Strait.

After suffering the stoke Harris had shown signs of improvement but succumbed suddenly.

"It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our dad - Captain Phil Harris. Dad has always been a fighter and continued to be until the end," sons Josh and Jake Harris said in a statement released by the network.

 "For us and the crew, he was someone who never backed down."
