DAVEÂs WIFE: GET OUT!
David Letterman has moved out of his family home after failing to patch things up with his outraged wife Regina, sources tell The ENQUIRER.
Mired in a sex scandal, the 62-year-old Late Show host is now living in his luxury loft in lower Manhattan, while his wife and son stay at his mansion in New York's swank Westchester County.
"Dave admitted he's sleeping in the city after Regina let him have it. He took a few days off from the show so they could try to work things out," divulged an insider at his CBS show. "But if anything, he may have made the situation worse.
"Regina demanded that he tell the complete truth about what he did with the women, but Dave hemmed and hawed.
"Now he's moved out of the house. He said Regina told him to 'get out' and that's exactly what he did!
"He hopes Regina will cool down in a few weeks and he can try again to set things right."
Even though he publicly apologized to her, Regina, 49, is still furious about Dave's illicit romance with his 34-year-old personal assistant Stephanie Birkitt, insiders say.
The secret affair exploded when Stephanie's jealous ex-lover - 48 Hours TV producer Robert "Joe" Halderman - allegedly tried to blackmail Letterman for $2 million, and the talk-show host went public with the extortion attempt.
Regina is most hurt that the affair continued after she married Dave last March, and that Dave reportedly brought Stephanie - who's now on paid leave from the Late Show - along on family vacations to St. Barts and Montana, sources say.
"Regina sees that as a terrible betrayal, by her husband and by Stephanie, who she really liked. It still hurts her to think about it," said the close source.
Although he's now living in Manhattan, sources say, with $300 million at stake in a potential divorce, Regina is pressuring Dave about his next step.
"Regina wants to make sure he doesn't hurt her again. She feels the scandal has made her a public laughing stock."
