PHYLICIA RASHAD is an over-the-top showbiz mom!
The 65-year-old “Cosby Show” star has been relentless in her attempts to turn her beautiful daughter Condola into a Hollywood megastar, a source says.
“Phylicia’s become obsessed with her daughter’s future – and she won’t rest until Condola brings home an Oscar,” an insider told The ENQUIRER. “She constantly nags her about trying out for big-budget film roles and drills her on upcoming movie productions and casting news.
“Phylicia has driven a terrible wedge in their relationship because of her all-consuming obsession with Condola making it big.”
Gorgeous Condola, 26, is garnering critical acclaim co-starring with Orlando Bloom on Broadway in Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” But that doesn’t seem to be enough for her demanding mom, who played Clair Huxtable on “The Cosby Show.”
“Phylicia continually warns her not to get comfortable on Broadway because it’s too far away from the Hollywood action,” continued the insider.
Condola’s dad is former NFL star and sportscaster Ahmad Rashad, whom Phylicia divorced in 2001. But despite her family tree, the insider says Condola never used her parents’ fame to get ahead. “You’d never know her mother was a TV icon,” the insider said. “She’s all about the work and very, very talented.”
In her short career, Condola’s already been nominated for two Tony Awards, has had a recurring role on NBC’s “Smash” and starred opposite Queen Latifah in last year’s TV remake of “Steel Magnolias.”
“Condola definitely has the chops to become a big star,” said the source. “But her mom just won’t stop pushing.”
According to the insider, Phylicia got so pushy on the set of “Romeo and Juliet” that Condola banned her from backstage. She’s also limited her overbearing mom to one phone call a day. “Phylicia means well, but she’s obsessed,” the insider added. “She won’t stop until Condola is the queen of Hollywood.”
