COCKPIT CRAZIES: IT COULD HAPPEN HERE!

Deranged pilot Andreas Lubitz sent a German airliner crashing into the French Alps in a homicidal frenzy that killed all 150 people aboard!

And now a National ENQUIRER investigation has revealed that Washington bureaucrats are doing nothing to protect Americans from similar maniacs – trusting mentally ill pilots to “self-report” if they plan to kill themselves and their passengers!

The world is still mourning the victims of 27-year-old Lubitz, who murdered a plane full of innocents while taking his own life on March 24.

The unhinged pilot had been prescribed several medications to treat his severe depression over recently breaking up with his girlfriend. None of those drugs, however, prevented Lubitz from locking the plane’s captain out of the cockpit during the fatal flight, leaving his superior attempting to break down the cabin door as the crazed pilot turned Germanwings Flight 9525 into a death trap.

And there’s no reason to believe that American airlines are protected from pilots with similar death wishes!

“You have to get your physical, but there is no requirement for regular psychological or psychiatric examinations of pilots,” said Brian Alexander, a New York lawyer, pilot and leading air safety expert. In 2010, the Federal Aviation Administration announced that pilots with “mild to moderate depression” can fly under the influence of four powerful antidepressants.

But in 2004, the Food and Drug Administration forced manufacturers to label those drugs with warnings that the medications can increase the risk of suicidal feelings. Brian insists the real issue isn’t whether the drugs improve or worsen mental illness.

As he told The ENQUIRER: “Once a pilot is on them, that is a red flag. That person should be on a heightened level of monitoring.” Meanwhile, some American families have already suffered at the hands of Lubitz. That includes 65-year-old Raymond Selke, who lost his wife – Pentagon intelligence expert Yvonne, 57 – and 23-year old daughter Emily in the crash.

“I have no ability nor wish to speculate on what transpired on that plane,” Raymond told The ENQUIRER in an exclusive interview. “All I know is a tragedy has occurred that has affected my family deeply, and we will deal with this together.”
