Chris Soules has officially been charged with a class D felony stemming from his recent fatal car crash!

The Bachelor alum is facing fines, probation and possibly a jail sentence!

According to the Buchanan County Sheriff’s office, Soules’ pickup rear-ended a tractor trailer on an Iowa roadway and fled the scene of the crash.

The truck driver, Kenneth Mosher, who was actually Soules’ neighbor was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Local police later arrested him ten miles away at his home in Arlington and was released after posting $10,000 bail.

However, Soules’ new high-powered legal defense team is arguing the charge, claiming  he “acted reasonably” by calling 911 and even trying to resuscitate Mosher.

Soules is heard telling the 911 operator that he didn’t think Mosher was breathing — and that he didn’t know how to do CPR!

“While initial reports suggested Soules fled the scene, the 911 call confirms that Soules in fact was the one who contacted law enforcement immediately,” said a statement by defense lawyer Alfredo Parrish.

“During the call, he clearly identified himself and explained his role in the terrible accident. Soules attempted to resuscitate Mr. Mosher and remained on the scene with him until emergency medical personnel arrived.”

Local authorities are interested in finding out if Soules was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash and have obtained a search warrant to obtain the results from blood tests taken at the hospital hours after the accident.

Soules’ preliminary hearing is set for May 2.
